Toy Bin Labels can be your best answer if you are struggling to get your kids to help clean up their toys.

Do you ask your kids to start picking up and they look at you like you are speaking a different language?

They walk around and kick at a ball and then play with the trucks again and you have to take them by the hand and specifically say, pick up that doll, put it in the basket. Now, pick up those cards and put them into the box and the box now goes into that cabinet.

Why does it have to be spelled out to them over and over.

I found a solution that helps.

Toy Bin Labels.

Kids are visual. They sometimes don’t know that we want all board games in a certain closet and all legos in the clear container.

These labels can help stop the step by step telling kids what to do. Help make them independent.

What a dream!! We say, clean up kids while sipping our margaritas and it is all done with a smile. I am just laughing to myself while typing that…but seriously.

Here are some other tips to help get our kids to help out more around the house.

4 Tips for Getting Kids to Pick up their Toys:

  1. Make it a set time – Set a timer and make everyone do a mad dash 3 minute clean up. It is amazing what a difference it can make.
  2. Set a specific amount of items each kid must put away – Everyone must put 5 items back in their correct spot.
  3. Do it right before something they really want to do – We will leave for the park as soon as we do a 3 minute pick up. If they stall say it will be a 4 minute pick up. Ready – Set – Go.
  4. Show them with visual toy bin labels where every thing should go – this stops the questions and the I don’t know where to put it.
