Why Is My Baby Suddenly Not Sleeping? Understanding the Wonder Weeks.

by Carolyn 26 Comments

I remember how excited I was my twins started sleeping through the night. I felt like a mom rock star! Sleep deprivation? Ha! I had conquered bedtime and I was feeling amazing! But, you know how people say not to jinx a good thing? Well, I met my match when my boys turned four months old and hit the wonder weeks. All those nights of lovely sleep? Gone. We were back to square one.

I called my friend, an infant sleep consultant, and cried tears of frustration. I had done everything the books told me to do. I’d swaddled, I’d rocked, I’d nursed, I’d held…and it was like none of that had ever even happened. What had I done wrong? And, more importantly, how could I fix it?

When To Start Sleep Training: It’s Not Too Late!

by Carolyn 17 Comments

I had just drifted off to sleep when it happened again. The cry on the baby monitor jolted me awake and, fumbling in the dark for my slippers, I made my way into the nursery. My daughter was not a good sleeper which, in turn, led to a very sleep deprived set of parents even after 6 months. It wasn’t that we didn’t want to try sleep training, we just didn’t know when to start sleep training or how to do it. Was it too soon? Was it too late? We were so exhausted that even the idea of trying to figure it out was overwhelming.

Dream Feed 101: What It Is, How to Do It, and Why It May Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night

by Carolyn 11 Comments

Every night at 12:48am, like clockwork, my daughter would wake up crying to be fed. Even though she had fallen asleep soundly at 8:30pm, those 12:48am feedings were becoming way too routine. I was desperate to find a way to help her (and me!) sleep through the night. That’s when a friend introduced me to the idea of a dream feed.

How And When Do Babies Drop To One Nap?

by Carolyn 21 Comments

One of the questions in our playgroups was always, when do babies drop to one nap? Naptime is an important time for kids, but let’s be honest, it is also an awesome break for parents.

It gives our kid’s bodies the recharge that it needs to make it through the rest of the day. Once kids leave the baby stage of sleeping a majority of the day, they typically nap twice a day. The hardest part is when it comes time to transition from two naps to one.

Whether you have an only child or lots of time with just one child in the waiting room while the other child is doing their sport or lessons, having single player games for your child to play can help the wait go quickly. These are tested and loved by boy my kids and some friends of mine. Both of us have kids that have to wait for siblings at sports practices.
